This paper will introduce selected practical issues and contemporary theoretical perspectives in postgraduate supervision, with a focus on participants’ own experience. The paper aims to extend participants’ knowledge of both the research and practical perspectives on the epistemology of postgraduate student supervision. Discussion topics may include models of supervision, different models of the thesis, developing students' research writing, specific issues in the supervision of international students, transferable skills beyond the postgraduate degree, and postgraduate qualifications within an international context.

The paper is an elective paper in the PGCert Tertiary Teaching & Learning. It requires 150 hours of study and will be taught in blended format, which will include face-to-face meetings, online (Moodle) discussion and interactions, independent study, assessment preparation, and practice-based tasks.
